At your initial appointment we ask that you arrive five minutes prior to your scheduled time to complete our new patient information form. Alternatively you can either email the completed form or print the form from the website and bring it filled in with you to your appointment.
Your visit will involve:
A thorough examination with Dr John Michalopoulos where existing dental conditions are recorded and any treatment required noted. This examination includes an assessment of your gum health as gum disease (aka periodontal disease) is quite common and affects your overall health.
It is necessary to take xrays which allows us to check between your teeth and under fillings / crown work to detect any signs of decay. We use digital radiographs which use much less radiation
than traditional xrays. In some cases we may also take an OPG which is a full mouth scan of all your teeth, upper and lower jaw in the one film.
At this visit an oral cancer check is also carried out. Early detection of abnormal soft tissues is vital.
The gathering of this information assists us to formulate a personalized treatment plan so that we can then inform and discuss with you your treatment needs. For complex treatment plans the information will be prepared and emailed to you soon after your visit.
We would then schedule an appointment with one of our highly qualified and committed dental hygienists for an assessment of your gum health and a scale and clean. If periodontal disease is diagnosed they will inform you of your treatment needs and home care to treat this condition.
